I love this guy's stuff. I use to think of guitar gods as Joe Santriani, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton...well Lindsey's guitar talent is just as good if not better than the afore mention rockers. I really think he'd be just as big as those guys too, but he made a ton of money as part of Fleetwood Mac. So on his solo albums, he went more for a serious critic & self pleasing sound....and less pop radio friendly of coarse. This 2 CD bootleg of his current tour really shines, great sound, great song selection, great audience...all this makes for one really good listen even for a non-buckingham fan. :)
Album Artist: Lindsey Buckingham

I really like albums/songs that combine really different artists to get a really unique listening experience. Well this album is just loaded with a who's who of music to do duets with Willie, but dang in the end, it just doesn't work on most the tracks on this album. The track listing just makes this album look better than it sounds :P

Like most "Best Of" albums, Forty Licks is missing a couple of what you'd think would be "no brainers" to include on any 2 CD best of album for the Stones... But with 40 really quality tunes, you find that there is so much good here that the little bit of missing isn't really missed. Not a big Stones fan, but now and then I like a fix of their stuff and this does very very nicely.
Album Artist: Rolling Stones

The fall to spring of 1980-81 is when my love of music really took hold of me, oh all that allowance money I spent at Eddie's Music City on 45's and Lps... This album being one of the founders and shaper of my music collection and tastes for years to come. Even some 25+ years later, this is one really good album.
Album Artist: Styx
Album Title: Paradise Theatre
Year: 1981
Genre: Rock

I enjoy Springsteens music and I find this a really enjoyable detour. Even a big artist like Springsteen doing an album of nothing but covers, even of Seeger, has their work cut out for them to make it a quality listen. Well...Bruce did it, this is one of those albums that once you start listening to it, its just infectious, and you want to hear it all the way thru. :)
Album Artist: Bruce Springsteen
Album Title: We Shall Overcome (The Seeger Sessions)
Year: 2006
Genre: Folk-Rock
Quality: 192

Most people know or think of Cock Robin as that mellow-pop one hit wonder of the 80's...and I originally added their "Best Of" album to my collection as just that, to have their single 80s hit in my collection (When Your Heart Is Weak-1985). But after a listen to all the tracks on that album, this group really doesnt deserve the moniker of "One Hit...", why this band didn't get more popular...who knows, but a really good listen and very over-looked 80s pop group if you ask me.
Album Artist: Cock Robin
Album Title: After Here Through Midland

If you noticed today, I'm into a Styx mood....well I noticed Dennis had a new album, still listening to it, so not alot of an opinion on it just yet. Its pop-rock'ish with typical DeYoung keyboards of coarse. Not heard just that "Great" track on it...so I'd have to give it an okay grade but nothing special.
Album Artist: Dennis DeYoung
Album Title: One Hundred Years From Now
Year: 2007
Genre: Pop
Quality: 256

A Single CD "Best Of" for styx, of coarse you've gotta expect holes in it, but a good causal fan best of. The version of Lady on this is the newer 1995 version and not the classic, so definite a black-mark for that subsitution.
Album Artist: Styx
Album Title: Best Of Times (Best Of Styx)
Year: 1997
Genre: Rock
Quality: 320

I like Styx, but you want to see what's wrong with record companys, this album is one great example, none of the tracks on this album called "Extended Versions" are really "Extended Versions".....this album is made up of 10 tracks from Styx's 2 CD 1997 Return to Paradise concert album....if your going huh? what the? yeap you understand this album about as good as me.... The 10 tracks that are here are good ones, but the customer is basically buying a partial previously released album and nothing even close to what a person would expect from this album's title.

Finally finished the new Harry Potter book, so back to music. My wife mentioned Finger Eleven to me, and this little group has grown on me. Sort'ta a sound like the band 'Live' but with a bit rougher sound with a dash of pop hooks sprinkled thru the songs. A nice find and listen...

At first I thought this was a really good review of Rod Stewarts work, and it is, just the couple of key rod songs that are missing really nagged me after I gave it a good listen. A good addition to my collection, but not as good as I wanted it to be. :P
Album Artist: Rod Stewart
Album Title: Story So Far (Very Best Of)

A nice collection of Blues Brothers songs, dunno if it really deserves the title of 'best of' since this album came out after their original album and the soundtrack for the movie, so not alot of material to really qualify for a "best of". But I'm sure there are groups with 10x the material and worst 'best of' albums than this one. Haven't seen the movie in a long time, but listening to this album really reminded me that Belushi and Aykroyd may have both been great comedian-actors in their own right, but they also had a bit of musical talent too.

The new Crowded House album, not really listened to this group besides there 80s hits, but hmmm, not as pop-hooky as those songs, but a nice pop album.

Only one album to add today, got side-tracked once i saw where the new Harry Potter book had been leaked on the net :) So I didnt have much time to add any music, but I guess I needed to add something, hmmm I'd better make it good.....Ray Charles is such a talent, and how can you really represent this in one single 'best of' CD, well this one comes as close as your gonna get to a one cd representation of Ray's music....a most excellent listen. :)

Oh what eclectic musical tastes I have, or just friends that have less 80's cheesey taste in music than me...I dunno its 'mostly' all good in the end. Start off with adding Timbaland's new one to my collection, not a fan and I mostly just knew the name from being a producer of Rap than an artist, not listened to much of this album yet, but with his producer track record alone, probably a good album for the genre.

You know an artist has some real singing ability when he can make a 16th century lute composer's music sound good. This album isn't going to everyone's cup of tea, but Sting makes this type of music as accessible as its going to get to the masses. I part-time mess around with the SCA, so this music isn't all that foreign to me, pretty well done too, wish Sting would show up as feast entertainment at the next event I attend :)

Okay I'm a closet Porter fan, so sue me :) Its a good album but you can tell that time has taken its toll on his vocals, but you gotta give this ol' ozark boy some credit for still slinging it this well in his 70's...Go Porter Go! :)

I never really got the American Idol thing, I just always thought it wasn't much more than a ploy by the music business to find lesser undiscovered talent and get paid by the TV Networks to do it. Pretty successful ploy...Clarkson is definitely the most talented of all the American Idol singers, but in the end she just seems like another female vocalist. Her albums aren't a bad listen, they just collect dust a lot :)

George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dyan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, if there every was such a thing as a 'supergroup' well you'd have to say that the Traveling Wilburys qualify no matter what your standards are. This is basically their two albums repackaged with a dvd of some video of them. With the original albums being out of print, this is a very nice way to add the Wilburys to your collection.

I'm not a fan of most rap music, yeah there is some i semi like (even a track or two off vanilla's first album), but if you want to make even the most die hard rap listener beg ya to put in that cheesey 80s pop your such a fan of, well pop this little cd in the tray. :P

If you say, Swedish Country Dance Band to most people they will go....I'll pass...actually their music is a bit addicting, definitely not your typical american fare. This 'Best Of' album is actually a bit of a let down, I find their 1st album 'Sex & Violins' a much better overall listen to this one.

the beginning of something

What the heck am I doing posting a blog, well I thought i'd be cool to go back and read thru how I grew and edited my digital music collection over time. Dunno if this will be too much of a pain to keep up, we'll see....and if for some reason other people read this, don't spam me requests to "share/send" my music to you, tons of other legal/illegal blogs and sites for that :P

Right now, to the best of my counting, my music collection stands at:
Total Albums: 951 (13,534 Tracks) which eats up 75.5GB of hard drive space.

Why start what seems like the 99th 're-something-or-whatever' of my digital music collection with Shania Twain's Up, hmmm well cause it was just there...the red and green cds (pop & country versions), just need to dig up that blue (world) cd now to finish improving the set. These albums arent really my thing, but not a bad listen, probably prefer the red of coarse, but the blue was 'interesting' with its 'world' arrangements.

Jeff Lynne's talents really shines in ELO, and all those albums have been nicely gathered togather in this two cd very best of album. It was a UK only release, why does the record companys try to release lesser crap to us american consumers, but if your can get your hands on this album, its definitely worth it.
